Popular actresses Gautami and Vidya Balan were on Friday appointed as part of the reconstituted Central Board of Film Certification, by the Union government.
The board will now be chaired by writer Prasoon Joshi, as Pahlaj Nihalani has been sacked. Gautami and Vidya will be joined on the Censor Board by Jeevitha Rajasekhar, Narendra Kohli, Naresh Chandra Lal and Neil Herbert Nongkynrih among others.
An official release said: “The central government is pleased to appoint Prasoon Joshi as chairperson of CBFC in an honorary capacity from August 11, for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
Expressing happiness on her new post, Vidya said, “I am very happy to join the CBFC and I hope to fulfil my responsibilities as a member to the best of my abilities. I look forward to this new and exciting phase where our cinema will be allowed to reflect the sensibilities, realities and complexities of the society we are living in today.”
