The Madras High Court on Friday restrained Thenandal Studios Limited (TSL) from using the title ‘Mersal’ for its upcoming movie starring Vijay.
Hearing a case filed by producer A Rajendran of AR Film Factory, Judge Anitha Sumanth issued an interim stay on using the film’s title for advertising, distribution or release, and has asked Thenandal, the producers of ‘Mersal’, to file a response by October 3.
In his plea, Rajendran said he had already registered the title ‘Mersal Aayitten’ in 2014. “I was shocked to know that there was another film titled Mersal, starring actor Vijay,” he said.
Rajendran alleged that the Producers’ Council did not take any action regarding his multiple complaints on the issue which forced him to approach the court.
Meanwhile, the ‘Mersal’ teaser which released yesterday received a huge thumbs up from the fans and fellow celebrities. It also went on to become the most liked teaser on YouTube.
