Brave Heart

Nenjil Thunivirundhal

– Review

Director Suseenthiran is one of those filmmakers who make movies not just for a living, but also to convey something to the society. ‘Nenjil Thunivirundhal’. which has  Sundeep Kishan, Vikranth, Mehreen, Soori and Harish Uttaman in key roles, too is no different.
Like ‘Naan Mahan Alla’, ‘Pandiya Naadu’ and ‘Paayum Puli’, all earlier outings of the same director, ‘Nenjil Thunivirundhal’ is racy, but only in the second half. For, the first half takes time to gain momentum.
But the director, along with his team, has packed the movie with enough ingredients to sustain our interest, making ‘Nenjil Thunivirunthal’ a good watch for family audiences this weekend.
Now the story:  Kumar (Sundeep Kishan) and Mahesh (Vikranth) are close buddies and they run a business together along with their other friend (Suri). Kumar has a sister and she falls for Mahesh, earning the wrath of the former’s mother (Thulasi).
While Kumar wants to lead a peaceful life, Mahesh is a brave man who fights for justice. Meanwhile, a fake police complaint is lodged against Mahesh.
The allegation against him is that he and his friends had attacked a real estate office. When Kumar probes, he finds out that the complaint is part of a bigger plan by a deadly quotation group led by a ruthless man (Harish Utthaman)
The criminal gang decides to bump off Mahesh. Now the onus is on Kumar to save his friend. The rest of the story is all about whether the friends are saved and whether Mahesh is able to join hands with his ladylove or not.
Both Sundeep and Vikranth fit well to boy-next-door characters and they have delivered goods. Mehreen is a beautiful find, while Soori is half-successful in evoking laughter and Harish Utthaman, the villain, is menacing.
Imman has done a decent job, but the scene-stealer is Lakshman, the cinematographer. The script goes for a toss at certain places due to the director’s intention to deliver messages. But for this, ‘Nenjil Thunivirundhal’ is an engaging movie.

Rating: 3 out of 5
