Now that the five-day raids have ended, it is being claimed that Income Tax officials have found Rs 1,430 crore in undeclared income in raids on family members of expelled AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala.
Officials reportedly said Rs seven crore in cash, Rs five crore worth of gold and a huge collection of diamond jewellery the value of which is yet to be assessed have been recovered.
“We have also frozen 15 bank lockers and several bank accounts,” authorities said, adding that the figure is likely to go up as they have also seized incriminating documents.
Vivek Jayaraman, nephew of Sasikala and the CEO of Jaya TV, was summoned to the I-T office and was questioned. Karnataka AIADMK secretary Pugazhendi and others too were probed by officials.
“We recovered many documents relating to these shell companies from Vivek’s house. Some documents were seized from the houses of his sister Krishna Priya and an auditor. We are also examining documents of some properties held by benami,” an I-T official was quoted as saying.
