Vishal, who sprang a surprise by announcing recently that he would contest in RK Nagar by-election, submitted his nomination papers on Monday.
He started his day by offering prayers at a temple and then offered tributes to former chief ministers K Kamaraj, M G Ramachandran, Janaki Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa. He also paid tributes at Sivaji Ganesan memorial.
Accompanied by his supporters, he filed nomination to the returning officer on Monday afternoon. Speaking to the media, he said, “he is contesting as one among the people and he is not a politician. I will fulfil the basic needs of the constituency,” he added.
Meanwhile, various theories are doing rounds about Vishal’s sudden political entry. AIADMK presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan, who is the ruling party’s candidate in RK Nagar, has said rebel leader TTV Dhinakaran is operating Vishal from behind.
There are others who say that actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan is backing Vishal. But circles close to the president of Tamil Film Producers Council denies these claims and said he is contesting on his own.
