While many in the industry are supporting Tamil Film Producers Council president and Nadigar Sangam general secretary Vishal’s decision to contest in RK Nagar by-election, there is opposition too.
At a press meet in Chennai, some producers including popular director Cheran demanded Vishal’s resignation form the TFPC as he is contesting in the election.
“Vishal should consider the welfare of producers and step down from the posts of Nadigar Sangam and Tamil Film Producers Council. If he refuses to resign, I will intensify my protest,” said Cheran.
Cheran said that Vishal had done nothing for the Producers Council since he became president eight months ago. “He has not fulfilled any promise. Everything is false,” he said and added that he represented the voice of majority of the members.
Cheran added: “Alagappan and Rama Narayanan had quit their posts as chief of Producers’ Council immediately after the party to which they owed allegiance had ceased to be in power because they all knew that film industry is dependent on the government. Now Vishal should also quit his position as he is directly taking on the government of the day,
