Though Vishal’s nomination papers in RK Nagar by-election were accepted after they were initially rejected, the poll officials announced late on Tuesday night that they have decided to reject his candidature.
Initially, they announced rejected his papers, stating that those who had proposed his name had denied doing so. But after Vishal appeared in person and said that his supporters were threatened by opponents and he had proof, officials accepted his nomination.
However around midnight, it was announced that his papers were being rejected. Returning officer Velusamy said in a statement: “I conclude that required number of the propsers have not validly proposed the candidature of Vishal and that he had been proposed only by 8 valid proposers and hence he has not fulfilled the conditions for valid nomination.”
Reacting to this, Vishal tweeted: “Democracy at its lowest low !! Disheartening to hear that the nomination made by me was initially accepted & later when I left, has been announced as invalid. 5th Dec 2016, #Amma died, 5th Dec, 2017, #Democracy died…. #SadReality #RIPDemocracy.”
