– Movie Review
Based on the Valiant Comics character of the same name, ‘Bloodshot’ begins with a solid premise for a revenge drama. What follows is a wholesome dose of sci-fi tropes, stunts and animation.
With the tagline ‘You don’t need a past to have a future’, the movie directed by David S F Wilson goes to show the greatest superhero Vin Diesel would ever play.
After he and his wife were killed, elite soldier Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel) is resurrected by a team of scientists. Enhanced with nanotechnology, he becomes a superhuman.
He becomes a biotech killing machine – Bloodshot. As Ray first trains with fellow super-soldiers, he cannot recall anything from his former life.
But when his memories flood back and he remembers the man that killed both him and his wife, he breaks out of the facility to get revenge, only to discover that there’s more to the conspiracy than he thought.
The film has moments of visual flare but feels hamstrung by dull writing and a leading man sleepwalking through the tech and the bullets. At the same time, we should also laud Vin for his conviction and dedication.
A particularly well-defined boss fight towards the end is testament to the marvels that CGI can accomplish. ‘Bloodshot’ is an adrenaline rushing fun ride for the audience, to watch mindless action unfurl.
